  2. Establishing bibliographic database of Egyptian children.
  3. Establishing a web site on line.
  4. Training, upgrading and enhancement of medical educators how to use this database.
  5. Support decision-making regarding the psychiatric and related health. conditions of Egyptian children particularly regarding the health, educational and medical services that they may be needed.

Current Activities (must be upgraded)

  • Weekly managing meeting: last seven months.
  • Collection of 48 theses in English [doctoral and master theses], 41 of them were entered to the computer. Moreover, 23 theses in Arabic were collected, 22 of them were entered in the computer. Other 18 theses are in preparation to be ready for entering to computer.
  • The project is designing abstract sheet and selection of target variables: second month
  • Entering data and validate data: the last five months
validation of data on the computer and building master psychiatric data file from individual files [one from each thesis]. The master psychiatric file built from 20 theses data. It includes 11,504 cases with major psychiatric variables. The master file is ready now for applying meta-analysis technique.
  • Training staff how to collect data: first two months.
  • Training of staff how to enter data: third and fourth months.
  • Training of staff how to validate data: fifth and sixth months.

A Background Statement of the Project
Psychiatry and health related factors among childhood age group, from birth to 18 years, are so important for their health and growing, education, training, and decision-making support. The importance of this childhood age group is related to the sensitivities of this growing age group that may affect them internally within their families and/or externally from their environment. Fortunately, there are many studies, theses, scientific papers, and reports, but not electronically yet. There is a need for the development of an Egyptian Psychiatric Information DATABASE for Egyptian children, regarding psychiatric and health related risk factors. The new EPI will be able to build a national and international electronic database from all previous information sources through one electronic Psychiatric database of children of many of scattered studies by use of meta-analysis technique.

Aims of the Project
Raising efficiency and ability of performance of young researchers to use the new Egyptian national EPI database electronic system, to summarize, link, select, exclude and interact with the needs of experts for planning, training, evaluation, and decision-making fields. And training all workers in the field how to collect, enter, analyze, and use this new electronic database.

Research Plan
The research plan includes the new EPIC will be built through three stages:

First Stage: Collection of Information
Second Stage: Enter and Validation of Data
Third Stage: National Electronic Psychiatric Database and Dissemination of Information

The first stage
The first stage included collection of information, the original data relevant to the psychiatric conditions in childhood age from all available sources in the last years through: arranging of regular managing meetings to execute the project, raining of junior staff, and purchased project equipments. Also, this phase included designing abstract sheet, selection of target variables, training of the project team on collection of data and entry, and validation. The project team collected 106 theses in English [doctoral and master theses], 104 of them were entered to the computer. Moreover, 48 theses in Arabic were collected, 22 of them were entered in the computer. The project team are working on to get more theses to complete the project.

The second stage
Validation of data on the computer and building the master psychiatric data file from individual files [one from each thesis]. The master psychiatric electronic file built from 80 theses data. It includes 39,810 cases with major psychiatric variables. The master file is ready for applying meta-analysis technique.

The third stage
This include; the managing team started to organize working meeting for preparation of two meetings; the first one, Working Meeting was held in agenda to put the agenda for the second and Scientific Meeting. It will be held on the Fall 2005. It will be concerned with dissemination and utilization of the national electronic data regarding “Egyptian Psychiatric Informatics In Children, EPIC, And Its Role In Medical Education, Training, And Decision-Making.” The dissemination and utilization of the national electronic data will include development and up-date web site by name www.epic-aus.org [under trial now]. Also, it includes the distribution of a “Newsletter,” monthly, starting from October 2005 about the major outcomes of the project to all concerned Egyptian governmental and non-governmental agencies, e.g. psychiatric, psychological, pediatric universities departments, Ministries of Health and Education, Broadcasting. Also, it includes the following; hold national meeting for the concerned parties in the previous fields, and issue the final report. The project team will work hard to maintain and up-date project by self-run through the services the project offers to the interesting parties.

Scope
Development of a national electronic psychiatric database by meta-analysis

Importance of the Topic:
The availability of national and international electronic and not summary or just theses, scientific papers or reports will allow to merge these theses and reports in one master electronic database which will allow for accessing these national medical, health, education, training, and decision-making support.

Presentation of the Content:
The plan of action of this project will include the executive plan to achieve its goals.

Beneficiaries:
Egyptian children and Egyptian children parents, teachers, physicians … etc who take care for children

Brief Presentation of the Submission Institute(s):
Postgraduate Childhood Studies is affiliated to Ain-Shams University, it is about 23 years old institution, more than 600 theses and reports all related to childhood studies [health, medical, psychiatric, psychological, social, cultural, and broadcasting studies, beside clinic, medical lab, and computer labs.

Current Situation
There are many studies and reports in many universities and governmental agencies libraries in the field of psychiatric of Egyptian children in last years. Moreover, most of these studies are present in paper format; some libraries store some of these studies in electronic forms as separate entity or separated islands.

Define needs and Problems:
The link between these studies and reports as data are lacking. In other words, there is a need to have electronic master database at least in every field of information such as psychiatry, and/or in different fields of psychiatric particularly in Egyptian children and train workers in the field how to use.

Specific objectives of the project:
The new Egyptian national EPI database will be based on electronic system to analyze, summarize, link, select, and exclude of specific data from the national Egyptian Psychiatric database. Moreover, this new national database will allow caretaker of children to interact with it, to fill the needs of Egyptian children. Moreover, new national EPI could be used to put strategies for health and psychiatric services of children, health, education, training, and decision-making support.

How the proposed project satisfies the targeted specific objectives:
The project will collect the scattered data regarding major psychiatry conditions [most of them on papers] among Egyptian children in one national electronic master database. The new psychiatry database will allow selecting, excluding, link, to summarize any psychiatry and relevant health issues related to Egyptian children. In addition, training of the staff.

Relevance to national/university enhancement strategy:
The new psychiatry electronic database of Egyptian children can be used in medical education, training, and support medical decision-making. In addition to an international comparison and link could be available.

Description of the project
Psychiatry and health related factors among childhood age group [from birth to 18 years] are determinant for their health and growing, education, and training. The importance of this childhood age group is related to the sensitivities of this growing age group that may affect them internally within their families and/or externally from their environment.

ortunately, there are many studies, theses, scientific papers and reports about this Egyptian childhood age group, but not electronically except in some libraries as word documents but not as database. There is a need for the development of an Egyptian Electronic Psychiatric Information System DATABASE on Egyptian children, regarding health and psychiatric factors. The new EPI will be able to build national and international electronic database from all previous information sources through one electronic psychiatric and related health database of children by using meta-analysis technique. The new national EPI database will summarize, analyze, link, select, exclude, and interact with the needs of experts working in childhood studies at the Egyptian universities and governmental agencies such as medical, health, education, training, and decision-making support.1,2

Methodology
The new EPI will be built through three stages. The first stage is to collect all information, the original [raw] data not only the summary, relevant to the psychiatric and related health conditions in childhood age from all sources in the last five years. The second stage is to enter these data on the computer after proper preparation, so it will be ready to handle with meta-analysis technique. The meta-analysis will allow re-building these data in one national database . The third stage will allow using the new national psychiatric database to be accessible by any one interested to have national psychiatric data, in addition to train the staff how to use.3-7 The fourth stage will allow training new national psychiatric database to be accessible.
